| First Up: Melting the Freeze |
| | Melt the freeze before the big dark hits! (Sam J. Leeds / City Cast Seattle) |
| How, Where, and When To Meet New People in Seattle | Last year, I discovered that come November, everyone retreats inside and doesn’t emerge from their homes until May. So, to prepare for the incoming Big Dark™️, we’re starting a new section of the newsletter to help find ways to connect with fellow Seattleites through our darker months. Once a week, we’ll feature gatherings where you can mix and mingle with other locals: | - Do some trivia tonight! Ravenna Brewing has a trivia night tonight at 7 pm. It’s dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and there are food trucks too! Get your team together and find some new friends.
- Get ready to vote on Wednesday: Music, beer, and ballots at Otter Bar and Burger in Eastlake starts at 6 pm. Great way to be civically engaged and also have a beer!
- Make stuff at SAM on Thursday: There’s a printmaking and storytelling event at the Seattle Art Museum starting at 4 pm. It’s included in your SAM tickets (and kids under 14 get in free!)
- Be a bookworm on Friday: Friend of the show Katie Lee Ellison is hosting a conversation with Rivka Clinton and Caleb True at Elliot Bay Book Company at 7 pm. It’ll cost you $0 to attend!

| | | This week on Weaving our Future: King County has grown fast, but so many don't earn enough to keep up with the high cost of living, and face limited opportunity to build family and community wealth. How do we make sure everyone benefits from our region's explosive growth? How do we build an economy that works for everyone? In this episode we explore dignity at work and new models for business and community development with Ana Gaeta, Deric Gruen, and the amazing Jane C. Hu. |

| What Seattle’s Talking About |
| 🛴 Did you see that stretch Lime scooter? It’s a question I never thought I’d ask, but here we are. A group of locals somehow managed to combine multiple Lime scooters into one long stretch scooter that fit 5 people, and then took the thing for a test drive around the city. Could this be the cure to the male loneliness epidemic? Someone get the Lime folks on the phone and pitch this as an official new design! | 🚙 ICE is still accessing driver data: Friend of the pod, Amy Sundberg is reporting that a large increase in ICE arrests is being enabled by Washington driver data. 356 arrests between August and November were the result of ICE pulling data from the Department of Licensing through an interstate querying system. Angela Godoy of the UW Center for Human Rights expects to see these numbers increase. We spoke to Angela in January about ICE accessing driver data. [The Urbanist] | | 🏘️ SSHD’s first construction project: The first original construction project from the Seattle Social Housing Developer (SSHD) is planned to open in 2028. Contributor Guy Oron reports the five-story apartment building in the Central District will be constructed on a lot that used to belong to the late housing advocate Rep. Frank Chopp. SSHD plans to reach 300 units by the end of this year. [The Stranger] |

If you can’t tell yet, we take the word “neighbor” seriously around here — it’s about showing up for our community and exploring Seattle with curiosity! So a big, neighborly thanks to Andrew W., who is the newest member of our City Cast Neighbors membership program. For $10 a month or $100 a year, you too can join the Neighborhood with your actual neighbors. Catch you tomorrow, Seattle! |
