Good morning! Let’s begin with a bit of housekeeping: If you received a letter in the mail asking for a revised voter signature, it’s not a scam. Clark County is giving voters the option to update their signatures ahead of the November election.

After you take care of that, let’s go for a drink. I’ve got some new Vegas watering holes for you to try below.

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🫨 Did You Feel It?

The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a “minor” magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook the valley Tuesday night — the epicenter was near Indian Springs. No damage or injuries have been reported. Aftershocks are expected throughout the week. [KLAS]

🚔 Raiders vs Police

The largest police union in Las Vegas says it will advise its officers not to work Raiders games if the NFL implements a new stadium security measure. The proposed rule would mandate biometric data for officers working games, something the union president says could be misused by “people who are anti-cop.” [KSNV]

🙉 I Am Sphere, Hear Me Roar

Despite objections from neighbors, the Paradise Town Advisory Board has given the Sphere the go-ahead to exceed noise limits with new sonic effects until midnight on 18 occasions every year. The issue will be reviewed by the Clark County Planning Commission on September 4. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🐟 The Epicenter of Crimes Against Caviar

Caviar has become the latest culinary status symbol, making appearances on everything from donuts to hot dogs and even ice cream. Is Las Vegas pushing the boundaries of caviar or getting it just right? We asked two food critics. [City Cast Las Vegas 🎧]

Food & Drink

Bottoms up! (Photo Courtesy of Las Vegas Distillery)

It’s the dog days of summer and you’re looking to cool off with a good beverage. These are some of our favorite places to drink this month.

🍸 Where to Drink Cocktails

Let’s start with a trio of new spots in the Arts District. Bar Ginza will have something for just about every whiskey lover, but Japanese whisky is the main character here. Stray Pirate, named after the legend of a treasure-seeking ship and its crew, serves tropical cocktails in a fully decorated ambiance — even the restrooms will have you longing for the seas. And then there’s the creative libations at Liquid Diet, named one of the best cocktail bars in the country by Esquire.

For tequila fans, La Casa de Juliette in Centennial Hills has an impressive list of agave spirits, including raicilla and sotol — a cousin to tequila hailing from my beloved Chihuahuan Desert. Another agave oasis is Siempre inside UnCommons in Spring Valley. Just skip the celebrity tequila and go for something like Lalo or Don Fulano.

Speaking of celebrities, I’m a longtime fan of chef José Andrés, so I’m excited to stop by his new Vegas concept Bazaar Mar (and companion lounge Bar Centro) inside The Shops at Crystals. The seafood dishes and cocktails look incredible — and I’ll go anywhere that serves Spanish wines.

William B's Steakhouse opened inside the Suncoast Resort earlier this year and they have a decent whiskey selection alongside their upscale dishes.

🍷 Where to Drink Wine

A nice glass of Spanish red wine accompanied by shareable snacks is peak leisure, and that’s exactly what you get at Wineaux inside UnCommons. They also have a monthly wine club, for your home cellar needs. Hey Las Vegas editor Rob Kachelriess has a few other vino recommendations on our website.

🍻 Honorable Mentions

The Underground Speakeasy and Distillery at The Mob Museum is offering free beer for Nevada residents through the month of August. Their Test Pilot mocktail is also killer.

Las Vegas Distillery in Henderson recently remodeled its space and is open to the public for tours, tastings, and a little something for your home bar.
